Hinsdale County ICE Releases

The ICE Online Detainee Locator System is an immigration detention lookup. ICE's locator page says it locates a detainee currently in ICE custody or in CBP custody for more than 48 hours. The research also points to USA.gov's ICE detainee page, which explains that searches can use an A-number or a name, country of birth, and birth date.

Those details define the page's limits. ICE is not a general Hinsdale County jail release database. It does not replace the Sheriff's Office records contact, the Colorado court record, Colorado VINE, or the Colorado Department of Corrections offender search. ICE becomes the right path when the release record, court file, or family information points to immigration custody, an ICE hold, or transfer to an immigration detention setting.

How to Search ICE Custody

ICE searches need precise identity data. An A-number search is usually the most direct route when that number is known. A name search requires country of birth and birth date, so spelling and date accuracy matter. If the person has a common name, the result should be checked against known custody dates and any transfer note in the Hinsdale County release record.

1. Open the ICE locator.
2. Search by A-number if it is known.
3. If no A-number is available, search by name, country of birth, and birth date.
4. Read the custody location and status as an ICE detention result, not as a county jail result.
5. If the person is not found, check HCSO records, the court case, VINE, CDOC, or BOP based on the likely custody path.

ICE's tool is JavaScript-dependent, and results can depend on timing. If a Hinsdale County release just occurred, the local record may show transfer before ICE's public locator is useful. If the event is older, the ICE locator may not serve as a durable archive. The better long-term explanation may be the sheriff release record or the court case file.

Not a County Release List

Research for Hinsdale County did not locate an official sheriff-hosted current roster, 24-hour release list, 72-hour release list, or mobile app showing recent releases. That absence should not push users into ICE by default. ICE answers immigration detention status. It does not show every person released from a local booking at 311 N. Henson in Lake City.

For an ordinary county release, the practical path is different. Use Colorado VINE while the person is in custody or near a custody-status change. Contact HCSO records for the release date, release time, release reason, and receiving agency if transferred. Check the Colorado Judicial Branch docket or clerk record when release depends on bond, warrant recall, sentencing, probation, or dismissal. Use CDOC only if the person moved into state prison or parole.

Hinsdale Transfer Records

A Hinsdale County jail record may show the bridge between local custody and immigration custody. The useful fields are release date and time, release type, hold basis, court case number, and receiving agency. If the receiving agency is ICE or another federal immigration custodian, the county record confirms that the person left HCSO custody. It does not prove that the person is still in ICE custody later.

A narrow request is best. Ask for the booking and release record for a date range and ask whether the release reason lists ICE, immigration hold, detainer, federal pickup, transfer, or other agency pickup.

Colorado's Criminal Justice Records Act can matter when requesting the local record. Section 24-72-302 defines criminal justice records broadly, and section 24-72-306 allows reasonable fees for search, retrieval, redaction, copies, and non-standard records. No Hinsdale-specific ICE-transfer fee schedule was located, so ask for a fee estimate if fees will apply.

Recent ICE Visibility

The Facility Map frames ICE as current custody and short-window or recent ICE visibility, not as a historic release archive. That distinction is practical. If someone was just taken from a local jail to an ICE setting, the locator may help after the ICE or CBP custody threshold and data update. If the person was released from ICE some time ago, the public locator may not provide the complete history.

Use a custody timeline. Start with the last confirmed agency. If the last known fact is a Hinsdale booking, ask HCSO for the local release reason. If the last known fact is a Colorado prison record, check CDOC release or discharge fields. If the last known fact is a federal prison sentence, check BOP. If the last known fact is immigration detention, use ICE and keep the result limited to ICE custody status.

Detainer

A request or notice tied to custody by another agency. The local record should be read for its exact wording.

Transfer

Movement from one custodian to another. It is not the same as community release.

Released from ICE

An immigration custody status event. It does not explain the original Hinsdale County case by itself.

Court Records After ICE Transfer

The Hinsdale County Courthouse is a separate release-confirmation source. The Colorado Judicial Branch lists the courthouse at 317 Henson St., Lake City, with limited local hours on the third Friday of the month. The courthouse contact page lists phone 970-944-2227 and HinsdaleClerk@judicial.state.co.us.

If a local case is still active after an ICE transfer, the docket or clerk record may show bond, warrant, plea, sentencing, probation, dismissal, mittimus, or other case events. The Colorado Judicial Branch docket search is a schedule tool, not the full case file. Use the clerk when the docket does not explain why the person left the jail or whether a court order remains active.
